چکیده

We present an alternative simulation run allocation scheme for maximizing efficiency in simulation experiments for decision making under uncertainty. The issue of simulation efficiency is addressed from two perspectives: i) We want to minimize the total computation cost, with a constraint that the overall simulation quality must be higher than a desired level; ii) we would like to maximize the simulation quality with the constraint that the total computation cost can not exceed a given budget. While these two problems look different, we show that the solutions to these two problems are identical. Comparisons with other procedures show that our approach can achieve a speedup factor of 3~4 for a 10-design example. The speedup factor is even higher for problems having a larger number of designs. + Corresponding author: Professor Chun-Hung Chen, Dept. of Systems Engineering & Operations Research, George Mason University, 4400 University Drive, MS 4A6, Fairfax, VA 22030; Tel: 703-993-3572; Fax: 703993-1521; Email: [email protected]. ++ This work has been supported in part by NSF under Grants DMI-0002900, DMI-0049062 and IIS-0325074, by NASA Ames Research Center under Grants NAG-2-1565 and NAG-2-1643, by FAA under Grant 00-G-016, and by George Mason University Research Foundation.

Asymptotic optimal tradeoff inMonteCarlo simulation of security prices

This paper presents an efficient algorithm for the allocation of computing resources to the problem of Monte Carlo simulation of continuous-time security prices. The asymptotic optimal tradeoff m = c n between increasing n, the number of time intervals and, increasing m, the number of simulations, given a limited budget of computer time, is found for the discrete-time Euler scheme. The constant...

Sequential Sample Allocation for Multiple Attribute Selection Decisions

When faced with a limited budget to collect data in support of a multiple attribute selection decision, the decisionmaker must decide how many samples to observe from each alternative and attribute. This allocation decision is of particular importance when the observation process is uncertain, such as with physical measurements. For example, when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security must de...

EFFICIENT SIMULATION FOR OPTIMIZATION OF TOPOLOGY, SHAPE AND SIZE OF MODULAR TRUSS STRUCTURES

The prevalent strategy in the topology optimization phase is to select a subset of members existing in an excessively connected truss, called Ground Structure, such that the overall weight or cost is minimized. Although finding a good topology significantly reduces the overall cost, excessive growth of the size of topology space combined with existence of varied types of design variables challe...

Blotto game-based low-complexity fair multiuser subcarrier allocation for uplink OFDMA networks

This article presents a subcarrier allocation scheme based on a Blotto game (SABG) for orthogonal frequencydivision multiple access (OFDMA) networks where correlation between adjacent subcarriers is considered. In the proposed game, users simultaneously compete for subcarriers using a limited budget. In order to win as many good subcarriers as possible in this game, users are required to wisely...

Constrained consumable resource allocation in alternative stochastic networks via multi-objective decision making

Many real projects complete through the realization of one and only one path of various possible network paths. Here, these networks are called alternative stochastic networks (ASNs). It is supposed that the nodes of considered network are probabilistic with exclusive-or receiver and exclusive-or emitter. First, an analytical approach is proposed to simplify the structure of t...
